The city was built in the sixteenth century on a peninsula and inside a fortification. All buildings were built in stone and you will not find much contemporary architecture. Valletta is full of history and that's why it is so charming.
The city is being preserved "slowly slowly", but I'm glad to see they are doing it in the right way. Although it is quite a small city, it is impossible to show all of Valletta in one blog post, so most likely, this will be just the first of many about this beautiful place.
This weekend was the Jazz Festival just next to the sea. We took some drinks, snacks and enjoyed the event with some friends. All in all, a lovely summer's evening...

Promessa é promessa! Aqui está um post sobre um dos sítios que mais adoro de todo o sempre: Valletta. Quando pensamos numa capital vem-nos à ideia uma cidade enorme, com metro,electricos, pessoas que andam à velocidade da luz, imensos museus e coisas a acontecerem ao mesmo tempo... bem, Valletta é precisamente o oposto. Aqui a vida decorre com a calma de quem saboreia a vida.
A "cidade" (coloco entre as aspas, pois pela dimensão mais parece uma aldeia, o quando muito uma vila ) foi erguida no século XVI entre muralhas e numa peninsula. Todos os edifícios são de pedra e arquitectura contemporânea é quase inexistente. Valletta respira história em cada canto e é por isso que tem um charme especial.
Tem sido preservada muitoooo lentamente e ainda tem muitos edifícios a necessitarem de restauro, mas fico feliz por ver que pelo menos tentam preservar a originalidade da cidade. Este será apenas um dos muitos post sobre Valletta, por isso, não iremos perder mais tempo a tagalerar. Vamos dar uma voltinha por este sítio tão único?!
